Membership Information

The Frederick Symphony Orchestra is a community orchestra comprised of professional and amateur musicians from the local area. All members are unpaid volunteers except principal string players and guest artists.

Membership is open to all qualified musicians aged 16 and over, subject to approval by the Music Director. Acceptance is based on two factors: 1) the current needs of the orchestra and 2) the skill level of the prospective member. Open auditions for new members are held semi-annually in late August and early January. College credit is available for eligible members through Frederick Community College.

To help offset the expenses of the Orchestra, FSO musicians are asked to pay dues in the amount of $65 for the entire year. Those who pay will receive one free ticket for each regular concert. Paying dues is not a requirement of membership; however, noncontributing members will not be allowed to vote for officers or policy changes and will not receive free concert tickets. Members who have paid their dues by the first rehearsal in September will have their names highlighted in the annual program booklet roster.
